Product Review: Emjoi Optima

I have not shaved my legs in over two weeks. Yup, two weeks.

Today I am reviewing a product I love. No one has paid me for this post. I paid for the product myself. I just wanted to share something that really worked for me.

In the past few years I have tried a lot of permanent hair removal machines including: No!No!, Mia and the Tria. I purchased each on QVC or HSN and they had a 90-day return policies. Each cost $300-$400 and not a single one of the systems stopped my thick leg hair from growing. Thankfully I was able to return each and not be out any money. But I honestly wouldn't recommend those systems.

QVC had yet another hair removal system a few weeks ago. I did some research and bought mine for about $28 on ebay.

It is the Emjoi Optima and it is an epilator. I have heard of epilators but never used one. It is basically a ton of tweezers pulling out your hair. If you have ever waxed, it is a similar process but without the wax or the strips.

You plug the device into an outlet and run it over your legs. It hurts. Actually, it is very painful the first few times. I won't lie. Take an advil or two and know it will hurt. But, "hopping" it up and down does help so it isn't a constant pain.

Two legs took me about 10 minutes the first time I did it and most of that was just waiting for the pain to subside. On the positive side, it completely took my mind off my RSD pain. If you are stressed about anything in your life, use this machine. You will forget everything else and be focused on the pain the device causes ;)

I shaved the day before I used this since I didn't realize it was coming in the mail the next day. I was pretty excited about trying it and did use it that same day. It grabbed about half of my hair which was pretty amazing. I love that you don't have to wait a week for your hair to grow like you do with waxing.

I did it every day for the first few days until all my leg hair had been pulled. The first time took about 20 minutes but every additional time takes me about 5 minutes. Seriously, it is super quick.

I have been using it for a few weeks now and it doesn't really hurt anymore. Just like tweezing your eyebrows, you kind of become use to it. I can now go about 2 weeks before using it again since it pulls your hair from the roots.

I wear dresses or skirts every day and not having to shave is a HUGE time saver for me. The few minutes of pain for a couple weeks of hair removal is totally worth it in my opinion.

There are a lot of epilators available but I would recommend using an Emjoi. I have other Emjoi products and also love them.

Here is the device on Amazon just so you can see the reviews. It is MUCH cheaper on Ebay if you wanted to buy it. They also had it on QVC but are sold out.

Again, no one paid me for this review. I just really love the silly thing :)

  5. Hi Janel - Yes, the first time it did leave bumps/redness. They went away in about a day. The second time was less and now they only last a few minutes. The pain from plucking so many hairs at once is getting better each time too. I guess my legs are getting use to it!
