Online Consignment

I love my local consignment shop. Since I live in a rural area, the "local" shop is actually 25 minutes away and I don't regularly drive past it. I don't get there as often as I like.

When it came to my attention that there are two online companies that will accept used clothing, I jumped at the chance to send them clothing.

Basically each ships you a free bag and you can send it there for free. Then they go through the clothing you sent and send you a check.

The bags already have postage and so you can ask your mail carrier to pick it up. My mail carrier already picks up my ebay items from my back porch and so I just added these bags to that pile.

Here is a bit about each company:

1. ThredUp accepts woman's clothing, shoes, handbags and kid's clothing. You can request a free bag and it ships to you in about a week. The bag is GIANT and you can request more than one. It is completely free. They accept items that have no flaws and have a list of brands they like to sell on their website. Some of the brands include J. Crew, DKNY, Calvin Klein, Ann Taylor and Marc Jacobs. There is a list on their website.

The website also has a calculator where you can put in your item and get an idea of what price you can get. For example, I put in a J. Crew dress and the pay out is about $11-$23.

You can give your full bag to your mail carrier or drop it off at FedEx if you would prefer. It takes a few weeks for them to go through your items once they get them. They will then choose what they want to resell on their website. You can choose to have the unwanted items given to charity or you can request them back for a fee (around $12 I believe).

I had the plain white bag laying around and so I printed the LikeTwice label myself.
ThredUp sent me their bag and it is on the right.

2. LikeTwice.com is the second company. It is very similar to ThredUp. Except you can print a free label from their website so you don't have to wait for a free bag. You can then stick it to any box or bag and they pay for the shipping. If you don't have a box or bag, you can request a free bag be mailed to you.

They accept items that are under 5 years old are in great shape. They also have a list of what designer's they like. Some include Abercrombie and Fitch, Jessica Simpson and Talbots. I would say that they accept more brands than ThredUp and they accept cheaper brands.

It also takes a few weeks to process your clothing and you can request a check. The unwanted clothing is given to a charity or you can request it back for a fee (around $5 I believe).

Sooo.....

What did I send? A bunch of stuff that was listed on ebay but wasn't selling. I gladly ended those items and packed them up.

I made a list of what I sold to each.

I love the fact that I don't have to drive anywhere to drop off the bags. Everything is so easy. I also love that shipping is free. I opted for them to donate anything that they didn't want so I won't have to pay to get it back.

I haven't gotten my totals from either company yet but I will update this post when I do.

Feel free to ask me any questions.

Disclaimer: I do get a referral fee for anyone that signs up. You are welcome to Google the websites and go directly there if you would prefer. Thanks!

  1. I love both of these companies. I have been using them for a few years now.. even before i sold on ebay. Sometimes, the amount you can get from either of these is WAY more than you would get on ebay! Good luck!
