Free Prescription Eye Glasses - Seriously!

I just ordered a pair of free prescription eye glasses. I found out about this site on an ebay discussion board and it actually worked.

Recently I was let go from work. I was very upset about a lot of things, one of which was that I was up for a new pair of glasses in January. My glasses were two years old and completely scratched up. I don't take the best of care of glasses.

Anyway...The site is: http://www.coastal.com/refer/8217297218

I put my reference number at the end since I get $20 for every new prescription. But...the best part is that you can enter your prescription and get free glasses. I literally paid $17 and that was for shipping & handling. I usually pay around $150 for glasses.

The code for free glasses is "GMA" but this is only good until TONIGHT. So you have to be quick. They have 46 pages of glasses and you can "try them on" a model.

I put my prescription in the box and within minutes I had a confirmation number. It worked great.

My Wednesday

I spent yesterday painting my father-in-law's bathroom. We are slowly updating his house. His home is a lovely 1950's house which HE BUILT. I am amazed at the craftsmanship that went into the home. It includes glass doorknobs, wide plank wood floors, large wood baseboards and a shower in the basement. Yup...the shower is in the basement. I have been told this is a common thing for a 1950's home.

His my father-in-law is 85, he decided to finally put the shower on the main floor. Our contractor has been working hard for the last week and we were finally ready to paint.

Here are a few photos of me wearing "paint clothes" for your viewing pleasure - ha!

After painting we changed all the outlets to white. There were literally a dozen different outlet covers from the 1950's through the 1970's. My husband took off the covers, I did the wiring and he screwed the covers back on. Thankfully it was a quick process.

Today we are back up at the F-I-L's house doing a second coat of paint.

Ebay

I have been selling and buying on ebay for years. I am guessing it has been 7 or 8 years now. It is a hobby I cannot stop. It is a wonderful thing to take a piece of clothing you purchased for $2 and sell it for $20.

Here are a few things I recently sold:

1. Express mini skirt. I loved this skirt and had planned to wear it for New Year's Eve. But we couldn't figure out what to do in our boring town and I fell asleep at 11pm. Never even made it to midnight. Purchased for $1.50, sold for $25.

2. Dressbarn dress. I do surprisingly well with Dressbarn in bigger sizes. I have sold dresses from $15-$30 and they sell quickly. This one was new with tags but I found it at the thrift for $2.50. It sold for $20.

3. American Eagle madras dress. Madras plaid dresses do well, especially in the summer. I went to a new thrift a few weeks ago and when I walked in, they handed me a bag. I could fill the brown paper bag for $5. I filled 8 bags and wound up with about 70 items. I purchased the dress for less than $1 and sold it for $20.

4. Gap skirt. This is a simple skirt made of a stretchy jersey. These skirts do well due to the fact that they have a "yoga" waist - a fold-down waist that you normally find in yoga pants. I have sold them from a lot of companies and have found that Ann Taylor and Gap skirts regularly bring $10-$20. This one sold for $17.99. This was also a bag sale find.

5. This dress sold about a month ago. I loved it so much and hated to see it go. It sold for just $45. Prom dresses and used bridesmaids dresses don't do extremely well on ebay. I paid $4 for it at a thrift.

Photobucket

6. Talbots blazer in a "plus size". Another brand I have been doing well with is Talbots. This jacket was purchased at the bag sale and sold for $35.

Photobucket

7. I hated to see this quilt sell. I purchased this years ago and it has been sitting in my closet. I loved it but never used it. I got $100 for it! I think I paid about $10 for it.

Photobucket

8. This was a bit of a surprise for me. A "restaurant.com" gift card. I got it for free. It sold for $10. Hey, ten dollars is ten dollars!

Photobucket

9. My husband use to collect baseball cards when he was younger. We are going to take most to a buyer at the mall but I keep forgetting them at home when I drive that way. This card brought $21.

Photobucket

10. Taco bell gift cards. Our Taco Bell's had a deal that if you purchased a $20 gift card, you got a free meal. I did this a few times and then sold the gift cards. They went for . . . $20. Ha! This means I got my meals for the ebay fees...about $1.80. Not bad.

I'm back

After taking a few weeks off from my blog, I am going to start posting again. A lot has happened over the last few weeks and I am sure I will catch everyone up over the next few posts.

Lately I have been selling a lot on ebay. I sell used clothing and basically anything else I can make a profit on. Recently I found something to sell at my father-in-law's house. (We are remodeling it and trying to de-clutter.) Here is a photo of it.

She doesn't look so bad far away but once I zoom in...

The poor thing is missing her eye balls. They fell back into her hollow head.

I listed the doll for $9.99. We'll see if it sells! If not, nothing lost. She will go back into the drawer from where she came.

Christmas Sweaters: Day 4

I had two different tops on today. The sweater & turtleneck I wore for most of the day. I switched right before supper because I was helping to serve dinner tonight and I knew I would be sweating up a storm in my turtleneck. So here are both photos:

1. The snowman sweater:

2. The snowman shirt:

The residents loved both and most noticed I changed outfits mid day. They are getting into the spirit by wearing their "beautiful" (ugly) sweaters as well. One even had on a blinking light necklace.

Christmas Sweaters: Day 3

I had something else picked to wear today but after last night, I was exhausted this morning. Someone had an emergency and pulled the cord in their apartment. This activates an extremely loud beeping sound in our bedroom and wakes us up. This happened at approx. 2:00am. In the two minutes it took us to get out of bed, throw on some robes and shoes and go downstairs, the couples was on their way to the hospital. Thankfully it turned out to be nothing serious. We got back to our apartment and got back into bed around 2:30am. Around 3:00am, another alarm went off. We hardly had a chance to fall asleep. After turning that one off and re-setting the alarms, it was around 3:30am. I am guessing I fell asleep around 4am and slept until my usual 5:45am.

Anyway...so that was our night. I threw on this super comfy sweater which is not quite as ugly as some of the others. Tomorrow I will pull out some truly ugly ones.

Notice how the sleeves are too short? I think this adds to the charm. I must have freakishly long arms since most tops and sweaters are too short on me.

So we made it through breakfast and I was looking forward to a boring Sunday in the office catching up on some paperwork. NOPE!

We had a FIRE. A real fire. I was sitting in the office, the hubby was laying down in our apartment upstairs. The fire alarm went off and our servers came running out of the kitchen. They said there was a fire in the kitchen.

I went into the kitchen and sure enough it was super smokey. I found the chef and we went into the back of the kitchen, into a laundry room that the kitchen uses to wash their items and a dryer was on fire. Thankfully it was a small fire that was contained in the dryer. We put it out. By that time my husband was up and taking care of things. The residents needed calmed, the fire department came and of course I didn't get that paperwork done.

There is always tomorrow.

Christmas Sweaters: Day 2

One of our residents got to dress up as Santa today. This gentleman is an exceptional resident and he has played Santa for 54 years. Isn't that amazing? He did a wonderful job picking up the kids and doing the "Ho Ho Ho" Santa laugh. I did notice he wasn't at supper this evening so I am thinking the event wore him out (I know I am exhausted and I am not in my 80s!). We had 22 children attend, most of whom were great-grandchildren of our residents. We even had a lady bring some of her great-great-grandchildren. She has 15 of them!!!

Here are a few photos. First is my Santa sweater...entirely done in sequins. I got so many compliments from the residents on this one.

The next photo is of my husband & me with Santa.

And lastly was a photo I snapped of the backs of heads. The family photo included Santa (of course) along with great-grandma and great-grandpa, grandma and grandpa, the mom and dad and a few kiddies. I didn't want to show faces so here is the back of the photo :)

Tomorrow we have holiday tap dancers at the retirement community! I know the residents are enjoying all the special events (which are held almost every day from now through Christmas). Thankfully it feels like my cold is getting a bit better. More photos tomorrow.

Christmas Sweaters: Day 1

For those of you who don't know, my husband & I manage a retirement community. The residents LOVE when we dress up for the different holidays. For the next few weeks I am planning on wearing ugly Christmas sweaters & shirts. Today's was a bit calm since it was the first day and it was dress down day here at the facility.

The top has three snowmen on the front and snowflakes on the long sleeves. Excuse the bags under my eyes. I am on day 3 of having a cold and it was a long day today.

Stay tuned for tomorrow's sweater.
